About

British painter JOHN BAWTREE qualified as an architect before deciding to pursue the life of a full-time artist.

He received a GREENSHIELD FOUNDATION AWARD in 1978, when he held his first London exhibition, which was in Mayfair. He has travelled extensively and has since had over forty one-man exhibitions, as well as diversifying into occasional architectural work, murals and illustration for TV. His most successful exhibitions have been at the Piers Feetham Gallery, London; Melitensia Gallery, Malta and the Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery.

He has executed many commissions, including sixty-five paintings over a period of five years for ANZ Grindlays Bank for reproduction in calendars and three dozen paintings of the middle-east for Gulf Greetings in Dubai who used them to start their Heritage Series of cards. In January 2005 his work sold for the first time at auction at Christies in South Kensington.

John lives in Peasenhall when not travelling and is currently planning trips to Hydra and Corfu.
